2nd Annual #BHM Music and Dance Bootcamp
2nd Annual #BHM Music and Dance Bootcamp
This February 6th - 7th, 2026, Kara Mack is set to initiate a movement at UC San Diego’s Wagner Dance Studios, aiming to recognize the cultural contributions of African Americans by hosting a music and dance bootcamp for students and community participants. Founder of Africa in America, Kara Mack, began honoring Black History Month at UC San Diego Feb. 2025, by dedicating a bootcamp of black dance vernaculars from 10am-10pm for one day entitled, “#BHM All-Day Dance Bootcamp”. Over the course of the day, over 250 students particpated in the study of black history, context, and dance technique training a various styles of movement created in the U.S. With the support of her own brand Africa in America, UC San Diego’s Black Studies Department and the Theater and Dance Dept., which Kara Mack is a Dance Professor in, Kara was able to make this happen for the community at a very affordable rate. Last year, the focus was soley on dance vernaculars, but the second year, she will expand the learning to black music genres as well as adding another day of training and a screening/ “Artversation” live townhall meeting. To keep the program affordable for students/community, she plans to maintain last year’s low registration fees. To make that possible, we’re seeking sponsors and community partners who share her commitment to cultural arts and education. With your support, Kara Mack will continue to have the ability to keep the fees low, so that more people/students in the community can be able to afford this transformative and very necessary experience.
