AFRICA IN AMERICA
Summer Reading Program 2022
In our continuous effort to build a bridge across the African Diaspora through prolific artists who are still here with us and who have also passed away, Africa in America is please to announce our 2nd Summer Reading Program July 2022 for students from the age of 13-22 years of age for an entire month. Due to the climate, we believe that it is important to instill more history and context into our youth as they continue to navigate their journeys in this present day society. Our Summer Reading Program, founded upon featuring one Black author for the month, gives students the discover black literature throughout one month while connecting with each other all over the world once-a-week for online discussions led by a team leader that will discuss the chapters designated for that week and how it applies to today’s society.
Any student who would like to participate in this program needs to show commitment by sharing in a paragraph or more why you feel you should be considered for this program. Once you purchase our AIA Summer Reading Box for only $20, which includes the book of your choice for the month, a pamphlet of background information on the featured Black author of the month, our Original Logo T-shirt, and information for the private ZOOM link that will be used for the weekly online meetings, you will fill out a required form that will represent your commitment.

SUMMER READING 2020 WAS SUCH A SUCCESS!
“Reading “Blackboy” really gave me an insight of some of the systems of oppressions back then in America.
I’ve lived and grown up in Africa my whole life, so I don’t know what it’s like to live in a fully diverse environment.
I learnt that being in a diverse environment can sometimes bring in disputes among each other, because of the differences we have.
Most importantly, I think it’s important to know this history, because racism is still one of the issues that exist, and to me it’s really a tip in advance, to understand that people treat colored people differently in other continents. But otherwise, I really loved the summer reading. The classes were enjoyable;I liked that we were free to open-up about any similarities and I also liked the check-ins with the mentor. The summer reading was handled well. I would definitely recommend the summer reading to my friends.”
